We all know that CPU is an important part of the computer. But do you know that why your PC is running at 99% in your Windows Task Manager?
Using your 99% CPU is not a bad thing. It’s just an issue that has the tendency to look a lot worse than it is.
Troubleshooting – Open Windows Task Manager
If you are willing to troubleshoot your 99% CPU usage problem, then you should open Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processor tab and check which processor is using the CPU power.
In most of the cases, it will be an application known as SVCHost.exe. SVCHost.exe is actually an official Windows processor, so don’t get confused, it’s not a virus.
In some cases, a sub-process of SVCHost.exe known as uPNP which allows you to plug and play peripherals that will start looking for compatible hardware. This causes 99% CPU usage. If you are not connecting peripherals then you should disable that service by right clicking on it in the Service tab of Windows Task Manager.
If it works then its okay, but if not then keep troubleshooting.
Run a Virus scan
SVCHost.exe is a good program and also it is an official Windows process. But there is a part of malware known as SVHost.exe.
SVHost.exe is actually a malicious program that immediately steals your CPU processing power and bandwidth. There is a very small difference between these two, i.e. the missing of ‘C’. You may get confused between these two as both are similar except the missing letter in it.
In order to fix this problem, run an antivirus program:
Following are the other reasons behind the high CPU usage.
- Your drivers are out-of-date
- You don’t have enough physical memory or virtual memory.
- Too many background programs or active programs.
- You are running a resource-intensive PC games.
- You computer is not being properly cooled and is overheating.
- You have problems and errors within your Windows registry.
Alternative software to fix this problem – Run PC Cleaner Software
In some cases, 99% CPU usage have to do with nothing listed above. You may have a slow computer that is running too many programs then you are just required to run PC Cleaner Software.
It is free of cost to perform a PC Cleaner Software that allows you to see if there any problems affecting your PC. If your scan shows some problem then it’s a better idea to run PC Cleaner software every week.
